5 Books on my Fall TBR List

The Broke and the Bookish host Top Ten Tuesday. They are great at bringing new top ten themes, and they have a huge list of them well in advance for those bloggers that like to plan super far ahead. You can learn about joining in here. I usually make a list of five instead of ten, just for your knowledge

Accidents of Nature by Harriet McBryde Johnson

Accidents of Nature by Harriet McBryde JohnsonI’m in the middle of a full-blown spaz-attack, and I don’t care. I don’t care at all. At home I always try to act normal, and spaz-attacks definitely aren’t normal. Here, people understand. They know a spaz-attack signals that I’m excited. They’re excited too, so they squeal with me; some even spaz on purpose, if you can call that spazzing . . .
An unforgettable coming-of-age novel about what it’s like to live with a physical disability

It’s the summer of 1970. Seventeen-year-old Jean has cerebral palsy, but she’s always believed she’s just the same as everyone else. She’s never really known another disabled person before she arrives at Camp Courage. As Jean joins a community unlike any she has ever imagined, she comes to question her old beliefs and look at the world in a new light. The camp session is only ten days long, but that may be all it takes to change a life forever.

Why I’m Anticipating

I’m working on a WIP with a main character who has a disability but, shamefully, have yet to read an ownvoices book about a disabled MC. So I’m excited to get to this one and read it because the excerpt in the summary has such a great voice.

The Graces by Laure Eve

The Graces by Laure EveEveryone loves the Graces.

Fenrin Grace is larger than life, almost mythical. He’s the school Pan, seducing girls without really meaning to. He’s biding his time until someone special comes along. Someone different, who will make him wonder how he got along all this time without her. Someone like me.

Fenrin’s twin, Thalia, is a willowy beauty with rippling, honey-colored hair. Wherever she goes, Thalia leaves behind a band of followers who want to emulate her. She casts spells over everyone she encounters, just like Fenrin—even if they both deny it.

Then there’s Summer. She’s the youngest Grace, and the only one who admits she’s really a witch. Summer is dark on the outside—with jet-black hair and kohl-rimmed eyes—and on the inside. It was inevitable that she’d find me, the new girl—a loner with secrets lurking under the surface.

I am River. I am not a Grace. But I’ll do anything to become one.

Why I’m Anticipating

MAGIC! AND WITCHES! Um… that’s about it. That and this gorgeous cover.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh BardugoKaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn’t think they’d survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they’re right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and left crippled by the kidnapping of a valuable team member, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz’s cunning and test the team’s fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city’s dark and twisting streets―a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of magic in the Grisha world.

Why I’m Anticipating

Who ISNT anticipating this one? I’m reading much slower these days as I have a shorter lunch-time, but I’m oping to breeze through my TBR and get to this one. But I’m also worried about reading it because I don’t want anyone to die, so maybe I’ll hold off.

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida CórdovaNothing says Happy Birthday like summoning the spirits of your dead relatives.

I fall to my knees. Shattered glass, melted candles and the outline of scorched feathers are all that surround me. Every single person who was in my house – my entire family — is gone.

Alex is a bruja, the most powerful witch in a generation…and she hates magic. At her Deathday celebration, Alex performs a spell to rid herself of her power. But it backfires. Her whole family vanishes into thin air, leaving her alone with Nova, a brujo boy she can’t trust. A boy whose intentions are as dark as the strange markings on his skin.

The only way to get her family back is to travel with Nova to Los Lagos, a land in-between, as dark as Limbo and as strange as Wonderland…

Why I’m Anticipating

So excccciiitteeeddd. First of all, diverse fantasy reads make me so happy. And I have only heard fantastic things about this book so I can’t wait to read it. And that cover gives me life. I remember seeing it months ago and thinking ‘omg’ and I’m still that way.

The Trespasser by Tana French

The Trespasser by Tana FrenchAntoinette Conway, the tough, abrasive detective from The Secret Place, is still on the Murder squad, but only just. She’s partnered up with Stephen Moran now, and that’s going well – but the rest of her working life isn’t. Antoinette doesn’t play well with others, and there’s a vicious running campaign in the squad to get rid of her. She and Stephen pull a case that at first looks like a slam-dunk lovers’ tiff, but gradually they realise there’s more going on: someone on their own squad is trying to push them towards the obvious solution, away from nagging questions. They have to work out whether this is just an escalation in the drive to get rid of her – or whether there’s something deeper and darker going on.

Why I’m Anticipating

I feel like I was waiting so long for this book that I didn’t think the author was writing them anymore and this popped up. This is my favouite thriller series of ever and so I can’t wait to read it. Also, I remember Antoinette being very prickly, and prickly characters are my jam.

What’s on your fall TBR? And why are you so excited about it?
